Summer in Town - James Rizzi goes Tirschenreuth

In the summer of 2026, Tirschenreuth will become colorful, vibrant, and truly one-of-a-kind—with the major exhibition “Summer in Town – James Rizzi goes Tirschenreuth,” designed specifically for the Tirschenreuth MuseumsQuartier.

On view from May 30 to August 2, 2026, is a colorful retrospective of the internationally celebrated Pop Art artist James Rizzi (1950–2011), whose unmistakable style exudes pure joie de vivre. James Rizzi, born in Brooklyn, was a true child of New York—his works are a tribute to the urban life, humor, diversity, and unbridled optimism of his hometown. The inventor of 3D-printed graphics created works from his studio in SoHo that have captivated audiences worldwide— and will also be on display in the Upper Palatinate in 2026.

The exhibition “Summer in Town – James Rizzi goes Tirschenreuth” at the MuseumsQuartier is dedicated to six central thematic worlds that shaped Rizzi’s artistic work:

  • My New York City – Rizzi’s declaration of love for the city that never sleeps
  • Love & Peace – Rizzi’s vision of a peaceful, joyful world
  • Birds & Animals – the colorful diversity of life in his charming animal world
  • Fish & Water – playful (under)water worlds full of life and imagination
  • Mini-Rizzis – Small formats with a big impact
  • Rizzi meets Classic – Pop Art in dialogue with classical masterpieces

A special highlight of the exhibition will be a 360-degree panoramic view of Rizzi’s studio in New York, allowing visitors to immerse themselves directly in the artist’s creative heart. For young visitors, there is also a Kids’ Artline that introduces children to art at their own level—in a playful and age-appropriate way. The exhibition is aimed at all generations and is ideal for group tours, family outings, school classes, and art lovers. Colorful, lively, full of joie de vivre—just like a summer day in the city, “James Rizzi goes Tirschenreuth” is a cultural highlight not to be missed.

Tip for event organizers and tour groups: The exhibition is an excellent stop for day trips, multi-day tours, or as part of a cultural itinerary—set amidst the charming landscape of the Upper Palatinate Forest.

Look forward to an art highlight in the summer of 2026!
